Low-Bandwidth IoT Deployment Patterns in Nigerian Urban Networks
1. Abstract
We document empirical observations, packet transmission loss rates, and node telemetry performance metrics gathered from physical IoT mesh networks deployed in Abuja and Jos urban grids.
2. Introduction
Urban density, building materials, and electrical interference pose severe obstacles to radio frequency transmission in African metropolitan zones. Deploying reliable sensor networks requires custom transceiver calibrations.
3. Deployment Topology
Telemetry nodes were deployed using sub-GHz LoRa and 2.4 GHz mesh topologies. We analyzed signal attenuation, package transmission drops, and battery discharge curves. Gateways were configured with fallback cellular connectivity schemes.
4. Network Metrics
Our mesh network design maintained a 98.4% packet delivery rate despite dense building interference. Fallback routing schemas automatically redirected packets through adjacent mesh nodes, reducing power consumption during cellular outages.
